Stubborn Staples Silenced! (Great Alliteration am I Right?)

Hey Guys!

        I was just barely encasing the Chuck E. Cheese Token I found earlier in a holder when I thought about how many coins/tokens are destroyed due to improper storage methods. This unfortunate trend holds especially true with the inexpensive cardboard holders that I use, like the one pictured below.

The token sitting in what will soon become its new home.

 

        What happens is that many people, including yours truly, use staples to secure the four sides of the holder and prevent the coin or token from escaping. The only problem with this is standard staplers like mine don't completely flatten the staples on the back of the holder....

This is what bad staples look like! Thankfully there is an easy solution!

        See what I mean? Not only does it look bad but these staples could scratch up and destroy any coins stored next to this one in a container! However there is a quick and simple answer to this problem from our old pals the needle nosed pliers!

       Just take the pliers and push the staples down so that they are flat against the cardboard like in the picture below.

SUCCESS!

        Now I can store this token with the objects in my collection without fearing that it would destroy them! And now you can too!

Checking your Corners... JP's Corner that is....

Hey Guys!

        All of this coin collecting recently has severely drained my collecting supplies. As such I am going online to buy more. With some research I found this awesome group called JP's Corner that has every kind of coin collecting item you would need to start your own collecting passion!

A Surprising Slogan Discovery

Hey Guys!

      I found another token! While not worth money these things are so fun to collect! Not only that but this company is well know for its arcade tokens... see if you can guess the name based on the picture below.

      That's right! This 1995 token came from none other than Chuck E Cheese's itself! Ever since I started collecting tokens I had wanted to own one of these. So thank you CoinStar for providing fruit once again.

       I also found a 1962 D nickel (which I think I already have) and an assortment of modern U.S. coins.

Sad Sunday

Hey Guys!

       This weekend was a very tough one for me. I came into work at the crack of dawn on Saturday and then stayed till 10:30 PM on Sunday. Both shifts were very long and to top it off I found no cool coins. I did see a Mexican Peso on Sunday but I was unable to get it because it was in a collection lock-box and the night crew managers don't have keys to that!

      I did find a nice looking 2005 D Nickel with the Bison Reverse and a handful of assorted U.S. cents but no other discoveries.

      Hopefully my luck changes and I find some awesome coins during work today!

A Great Read for No Cost!

Hey Guys!

      Its another wonderful Friday and time for a fantastic resource! Now I don't know about you guys but I love to read other people's collecting stories and adventures, and it is in  that spirit that I found this resource.

A well organized yard sale, which always make the searching easier! 

       This resource is a blog called "The $3.00 Yard Sale Experiment", which details the adventure of one father as he turns an initial investment of $3.00 into thousands through flipping items he finds at yard sales on eBay. I personally love this blog and it served as part of the inspiration to blog about my own passion which is collecting.

Coinstar Coins!

Hey Guys!

         Yesterday was a very strange and unusual day, in such a way as I don't know how to talk about it.  Lots of traffic even into the later hours of the evening, and my store got several requests at odd times. Not quite sure what to make of it, so I am just not going to worry or stress about it much.

         On the plus side I noticed some coins stuck in the tray of the CoinStar machine and after a little effort I got two nickels and two cents. The best part was that one nickel was a 1961 nickel that I did not have yet. I also found a bicentennial quarter celebrating the 200th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence in a cash drawer. I like the reverse design of these quarters and will always pick one up if given the chance.

               Got to get ready for work in a bit, and hopefully I will find some more cool coins. Maybe even a half dollar or Susan B. Anthony dollar!

Nickel Rolling!

Hey Guys!

       I was able to pick up ten bucks from the bank in nickel rolls yesterday and went through them to look for some cool finds! Sadly no buffalo nickels but I did find three nickels from the early years of the Jefferson mintage. Which were:

This 1939 D nickel, I had the 1939 already but not this one

         A really cool find considering Jefferson nickels began production halfway through 1938, so a really early find!

Found another 1947 piece, but I already have one in better condition

Both of these coins from the 50's were great since I did not have either of them!

Only a few coins from the 60's, including several 1969 S nickels.

The coins from the 70's were few and far between this time around

Even the coins from the 80's were fewer in number. Only 25 nickels!

A big jump in number when I hit the 90's. 59 coins this time.

Lots of coins from the 2000's here. I even found several shining examples of the "peace medal" and "westward journey" reverses!

         

And to wrap it up a fair number of nickels from 2010-2016. I picked out several examples that still had lots of luster!

In total, out of the 200 nickels:

• 156 were minted in 1990 or later years
• 44 were minted in 1989 or before

        Overall I feel that there was a much higher concentration of recent nickels compared to the last nickel  roll hunt I posted. I hope to get some more in the future, and will will post the results when I do. Hopefully I can find another buffalo nickel!!!
